I think you are referring to this sentance that Holly posted:
"If you use another lamp the UV output may be sufficient to make the product appear cured but can lead to issues like service breakdown and over exposure."

I don't believe she is talking about "Over curing" the product. She is saying that if you use another light, your product may appear to be cured, but it is not, thus it could lead to your client being over exposed to uncured gel and form a reaction. It's the same thing as when they tell you when wiping the tacky layer off of nails to change your wipe every one or two nails so that you aren't over exposing the skin to the tacky layer.

Katherine,
I'm heading to the HRTE in Portland today. I think I'll print your email and ask Jim from LE. :) Then I can post his reply.

I do not understand the overexposure question either. In photography once the photo initiators are neutralized they stop working, if they didn't, photographs would fade away, I used to be a photographer many moons ago. I thought that the photo initiators were exhausted after 2 minutes. If they are not exhausted, the nails would discolor and/or become brittle from exposure to the sun or a tanning bed over time. So, do the photo initiators become exhausted after the 2 minute cure time in the soak off gels? Anyone know?

My testers are doing well. Actually took it off my daughter but still have it on the massage therapist at work.

Why the over-exposure question?

Has anyone had service breakdown or over-exposure yet? I still don't really get how one tunnel lamp is different from another. Science is hard. LOL

a) the colors can be layered but not mixed because each color has its own unique chemical formula. If you mix them it messes up the balance of photo initiators and pigment. The layering works because the color is cured in it's own layer with the photo initiators and pigment in balance and then the next color is cured in it's own layer etc.

b) the CND lamp is different from other lamps because it has a higher UV output, there are low amounts of photo initiators in Brisa and Shellac to keep them from easily over curing and becoming aged, yellow, and brittle on the nail. If you use another lamp the UV output may be sufficient to make the product appear cured but can lead to issues like service breakdown and over exposure.

Subject: NailTech:: another shellac question

I just got off the phone with Candace at CND and she said she can't list me on the salon finder if I'm not going to use their lamp. Gah! I'm not spending another $100 if I don't have to. She wasn't really able to explain to me, to my satisfaction, why a) the colors can be layered but not mixed and b)why the CND lamp is any different than any other gel lamp. What do you folks think?
