Kimberly, I am testing out both also. The base of Gelish, how are you
applying this. the brush is a short little burger, and thinking that
maybe it should be "scrubbed" on vs. applying it? It is thicker than
the other I am using. and also, to have shellac last longer, maybe
applying a primer like Protein Bond first??????? diana from indiana

I've had a few emails about my personal experience with these two SOG
lines so I thought I'd post in case it may help anyone. I don't

observations.
I like them both a lot, but they are different.
The Gelish seems to last a little longer but you have to buff/ file
off the shine before soaking off and toy have to GENTLY file prep/
lightly buff the nail with Gelish too.
Gelish also has an optional extra layer of gel called
"structure" (pot) if needed.
I need to play around more with the structure before I can comment on
it. I've only used it 1x
I really like how quick and easy the Shellac is to take off.
The shellac you don't file prep and you don't have to remove top shine
before removing... Just go to work
But it does tend to wrinkle in my experience so far.
The shellac will come off YOUR nails with acetone, so not a good
choice for the nail technician unless she/he buys the Gelish or other
gel topcoat and uses that over the shellac instead.
Once the Gelish lamp is released all the time saved with the Shellac
by not buffing will be made up with the timing of this lamp if it
works as it is advertised to...10 second cure for base coat and 30 sec
cure for all other coats !!! It is supposed to be released in June so
I can't wait !!!
However if you have a lot of clients that will *NOT* be coming in for
regular manicures and want to remove themselves, go for the Shellac
( of course, as you know you need to educate on how to remove properly
if you are not performing the removal). I have spa party ladies, I
drive a decent distance to and I only see them once a month and they
have a hard time getting the Gelish off themselves so I now bring the
shellac for them.
I am finding that the Gelish was holding up better on them so far
though but maybe I also need to get used to the Shellac as I have only
had it for a short time.
I think they are both great products and I think it depends on your
clientele.
The last thing I want to address is price.
The Gelish is about half the price as the Shellac. The Gelish bottle
is 2x the size of the Shellac.
AND PLEASE consider the cost of the base and top coats too when you
are figuring service costs !!!
The Shellac base and top coat are also half the size of the Gelish.
You can email me privately with any questions, I'm happy to answer or
discuss my personal opinion :)
