I sorta go with the season thing... especially if they have an event they are going to. Let's face it... bright purple toes at Christmas time for a cocktail party looks a little odd.... :) Summer, I am a little more lienient with the color... brights are my suggestion, pretty pastels are good with a tan, and I will let a select few get away with like an eggplant color that I would generally consider a fall color. I don't really go by skin tone, however, I do go sorta with the color family they normally wear. 99% of my clients don't pick their color... I do! But I use their color choices, the season, their plans, and their skin tone as my guide. That is what the big bucks are for... LOL... Easy example black is now chic year round ;o) I've got red, white, and blue toes with a Fedora moon and textured Strawberry Smoothie on my nails :o) Holly L.
