Hi everyone, I have been lurking here for quite some time and have
been enjoying all your posts and information. I have been watching
closely to the conversations about these new gels, Shellac, Gelish,
ECO and I see in NAILS Magazine i.b.d. is due with their own very
soon. Never one to jump without doing my homework, I have been
waiting to see how all this shakes out.
The reason I decided to post today is last night. I went to a
fireworks party where we had an super view of some great fireworks.
Anyway, there was many people there we had not met before, including
these 2 sisters, well over 70 (one very vocal about being the younger
sister!) The older of the sisters was sitting at the table with my
husband, our neighbor and several others. She noticed my nails
(traditional gel rock-star blinged) and tells me she used to have
fake nails but just took them off and both she and her sister got
this new polish "stuff". Now mind you this is pretty small town here
and I have not seen or heard anyone doing gel polish yet, but these 2
women sure did. I asked her if it was called Shellac and oh yes she
says, yes that was what her girl said it was. So we talked a little
about it and moved on to other things. A little later she grabs my
hand and asks me if I do my own nails. Oh yes I said I sure do.
Now this next comment is the base reason for me coming out of the
woodwork today.
"Tell me, do you think I can do this Shellac thing myself or do I
need to keep going to the girl to do them?"
Of course I gave her 6 reasons to Sunday Church as to why she had to
continue to patronize her "girl" and could not or should not be
doing them herself. I am pretty sure she will heed my words and
continue with her girl. But, the conversation bothered me all night.
If this 75+ year old woman even had a tweak in the brain about doing
this on herself, then oh boy how are we as professionals going to
deal with that? I have already seen (at whoa high prices) Shellac on
ebay and Amazon.
So while this new service has already and probably will continue to
bring in new clients while CND is doing all this consumer promoting,
what do you all think is going to happen long term. I read some
comments by Lorraine about the ECO being in pots while the others are
polish bottles, I belive I will be leaning in that direction when I
make my decision as to which line to take in. Meanwhile I am going to
pay this woman's "girl" a visit and have myself a Shellac done - yes
that means removing my bling and I will cry, but I have to get a test
run for myself as part of my homework!
Looking forward to hearing every ones input on this,
Robin
