Don't forget that thyroid disease can cause nail separation, too.
Usually it starts on the pinkies and/or thumbs first. When I finally
was diagnosed with Graves disease (type of thyroid disease), I had
already taken off my nail enhancements due to all the separation. It
took over 2 years for the last holdout, my left pinkie, to finally re-
attach. But I had kept it cut back beyond short and used Dr. G's and
Vicks vaporub. Tea tree oil burned the skin around my finger, so I had
to quit using that.

To this day, I cannot wear anything over that pinkie and ring finger,
including polish, otherwise they lift off the bed again. I just tried
the Gelish on them and had to soak it off after 4 days because they
began separating again. It's so frustrating. Oddly enough, I can wear
anything over my other nails....just not those last 2 fingers.
