A VERY close friend of mine lost her entire nail but still had new growth coming in. The tricky bit of this is keeping the nail growing out (normally) and not up straight out of the bed. I've seen this as well. So for her, we kept it wrapped. Bandaid, finger wrap whatever. It kept the nail from growing straight up. She was so dedicated. To this day, you'd never know she lost it.
