No, I use Shellac on its own. Someone asked why I wouldn't just use reg polish instead. That's what I meant by "the use of Shellac over polish".

No sooner did I hit "send" on my phone then in she walks for her appointment, hahahaha. The Universe had a giggle at my expense:) What I did was seat her as per normal and I grabbed one of these tall tables on wheels that the stylists use for holding extra tools. I stood and did one hand from start to finish. I placed the lamp on this tall table, held it upwards a little and she leaned into it. I stood sort behind and off to the side to hold her fingers straight during prep and curing. I normally book 30 min for Shellac and this ran me about 45-50 minutes, but I think it will go more smoothly in the future now that I stumbled through it once. What I will put on my shopping list is one of those hairstylist stools because that would have been very handy, and a second lamp because I like having two anyway. She was thrilled:) To answer the question of why Shellac over reg polish, a couple of reasons: 1. She has heard about it from her friends and they love it. We all want to fit in and why shouldn't she have it, if possible? 2. In watching her move, it dawned on me that she leans a lot and her fingers drag and bang on things like tables, purses, etc so even though she isn't doing all the things we do, she still puts her makeup on, dresses herself, and I watched her sweep the floor for a stylist here that she is friends with. O_o So, she smudges as much as we do. She was asking during the process about it and I said "Well, you use your hands a lot but the product is meant to last up to two weeks so this will be the test for you because I have some clients who can go a month and some who only last a week. Most of them fall somewhere in between." She thanked me for recognizing that she can do things and mentioned that a lot of places squirm and patronize to her before they finally say no. Physically accommodating a new client Nicole, The UV lights do come in a mini-size (sort of). We have one at the salon, it has just one 9 watt bulb in it. The girl I work with got it so that we could try out the gel polishes before investing in a full size light. It was a bit inconvenient for the nails as you had to cure the thumbs separately, however she's using it for pedicures and it's perfect for that! Depending how this woman's fingers/nails are lined up, it may be a much better lamp for you to use with her. I have seen them in the back of Nails/Nail Pro magazine. You'd end up playing kneesies, but what the hell? As long as you both chew some gum first it should be ok. Ok, so sit across from her w/ you table on the side so you can reach all the things you'll need. After she's prepped, put on the firs coat of shellac, hold the lamp up to her hand and cure.
