Yes,you can fade another color in. In order to get a good fade you need a color that is opaque enough to cover the line of the black and then fade into it. Don't use a sheer. Heavy glittery colors usually do the trick. I do lots of color ac, but I generally do it like a french and change colors with a backfill on clients, otherwise they are "married" to color on the entire nail and it is hard to change to a lighter color.
