Michele,
I did not try a hard shutdown. A regular shutdown did not work. If it happens
again, I will try. I was actually surprised Apple did not suggest a hard
shutdown.

I still own a Dell desktop that I have had for years, and do not turn it on
unless I absolutely have to use a program for college that is not Mac
compatible. Each time I turn it on, I do the antivirus check etc.... It takes
so long, I am so glad I do not need to mess with it much.

While some disagree, even though a Mac can get a virus, it is very rare, and if
I did, as long as I do my Time Machine backups, I can always bring it to the
genius bar and they would take care of it for free, with minimal lost time and
effort.

Lisa I totally agree. Question about the pop up. Could you have done a hard
shutdown/reboot to get rid of it?

Jill,
I own a MacBook Pro and i love it! Never had a problem with a virus, and if
you do have a question on something, Applecare and the Genius bar are always
able to help.

With that being said, my fathe and I just purchased Ipad2's. He is using his
more often than I am, but he got a pop-up with this same antivirus
scan/protection and I called Applecare concerned about what I was seeing. It
is in fact a pop-up advertisement, but does no harm to the iPad's system. I
just clicked on, because it was the only way to get out of the browser window,
it did it's little fake scan and I was able to close it out. No harm, no foul.
just an inconvenience and confusing for my father.

Overall, because Mac's are not Window's based, they are not susceptible to the
attacks that are out there. The expense of a Mac is woth every penny.
