Howdy folks. I think I am out of LURK mode now... Whew! What a crazy few months! As all of you are gearing up for Orlando, I figured I would blast ya with a quick update on me. I closed my salon on May 20th and went to work for a corporate salon and spa. I have to say... I couldn't be happier. :) They are a great company of true professionals doing great services. We have hydraulic/electric pedicure beds! I get to sit on a stool and do pedis, not on the floor like I did in my little salon! I have FULL benefits... yep, that's right folks, medical/dental/vision/retirement/vacation! We use professional products and do high quality, high end services. I am getting paid what I believe to be a very competitive commission... Now, so do I have the same flexibility as a renter/owner? Of course not. But let me tell ya, the structure is really working for me: A set schedule. Front desk staff greets clients and takes payment. Call center staff books appointments. Dispensary staff washes towels (!!). I do nails... it is like a finely tuned machine is that completely customer service oriented. (Holly Cliffe, you had said you had wondered what I was up to... now you know why... LOL). I have a lot of experience in a lot of things as an independent nail tech... like products and techniques that the average nail tech in a corporate salon will never try, but I am in "Advanced Training" (14 years experience and I'm back in "school"!) and have still learned a ton. I am a much better nail tech than I was 2 weeks ago, and I thought I was pretty decent before. You CAN teach an old dog new tricks!!! :) So... the days of renting and owning are over for me. I will happily take my place in the full service spa world until I move into the corporate side of the nail business somewhere. All I would say folks is... keep your eyes and mind open. I am so glad I took a look at other options in our industry to see if I could find one that would work better for me. Well... all y'all who are going to Orlando, have a blast!! Maybe next year I will be able to go... :) Everyone else, happy nailing!!
