I thought of that and it could be a bruise on the new one, I will have to watch 
and see what it looks like after it grows out a little from cuticle. I don't 
think it is though.  The first one is on the side of the nail, not the tip and 
has gotten worse, spreading down toward the cuticle area. It is more like a 
brownish color. I was just reading about this and it could be a damaged immune 
system or several other things. There isn't any pain or swelling. She is very 
stubborn so I don't think she will go to the doctor just for this. She smokes 
and this nail that is having issues on the side would be the one she holds her 
ciggarette with. Index finger. Don't know if that could have anything to do 
with it. She washes a lot of dishes also.
