One of the bigger news shows in Vancouver did a story last night on the risk of
clients ending up with cancer due to over exposure to uv light during gel
manicures. She interviewed a client in a salon having her nails "buffed"
prior to gel polish application. Then she interviewed a dermatologist who
confirmed that there may be an increased risk of malignancy with these
services. Then she talked about a woman who believes her cancer was caused by
the uv lights. At the end of the interview she said that "of course beauty
industry scientists are presenting their own studies to defend their products".
Then she ended the piece without elaborating on that

This morning I sent her a copy of Doug's study on UV lights and over exposure
suggesting she present a "balanced" approach to the story. She wrote me back
quite quickly to say she had read the study and did present a balanced approach
because the study she referred to in her story was Doug's. She never
elaborated on Doug's study at all.....even though she had the information right
in front of her she focussed on the fear mongering.

I gotta' say, I don't know how you get a fair shake with these people.....they
have the right info yet they still misrepresent the situation!!!!
