Diana’s right...a great way to get started is to volunteer at your local schools. Go in person and meet with the director or instructors and tell them what you are interested in providing. So, if your idea is to share some information about ABC....tell them that you can prepare a 1 hour or a 2 hour module, with handouts. They love hand outs! (and just a word...I wouldn’t leave one with the school unless you actually teach the classes...and be sure and write a complete copyright on everything you hand out. “All rights reserved. No use of this material is allowed...blah blah...) Oh and be prepared to get shanghaied into doing something other than what you really want to talk about! lol
Also, approach the local beauty distributors....knowing that if you give a class for them, they will, of course, be wanting to sell some products to your class attendees, so they’ll work with you to create a “class special”. Even if it’s something as non-product oriented as acetone and cotton balls...you will need to help the distributor sell products and they’ll want you to come back. So go in there with a plan of what products they’ll have to have in stock....suggest a kit that you will help them assemble...etc. Tag us if you need help with anything...and good luck on “doing the next thing!” Karen Grapevine From: [email protected] Sent: Monday, November 05, 2012 8:58 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: NailTech:: Nailtech: Need Next Chapter Mentor, I need some guidance please Thanks Deb, I am so excited about it! You know that I am a stylist as well, not to many of us around, I can thank Tom Holcomb (rip) for that inspiration many years ago and how valuable I would become if I mastered both!!! Anyway, I have been having a hard time trying to choose which area hair or nails to pursue educating in, I soo wish there was a company that did both... Oh L'oreal...lol I m here for you!!! Thanks for always being there Deb!!! There are many of you who have been here since the beginning and I love that even tho some of us have never met, I feel that you all have been such a great inspiration to me through the years. My dream of opening my own salon was met in Orlando with a zillion ideas, suggestions and fears, man that feels like a million years ago! Deb, Diana, Athena, Patti, Amy, The gracious doc that let me do his nails in anticipation of my first big show nail competition and the many other amazing ladies that I shared the condos with!! Wow was that really 2001?? Anyway, you guys have helped me with inspiration, guidance and words of wisdom and now Its time again. My spa just celebrated 10 years, as all of you that are my Facebook friends know, and I am ready to do something new. I watch all of the educators, todays and yesterdays, through the years share their knowledge and experience with me and other little sponges like myself, and I believe it is time for me to do my part! I have gone back and forth on how I should go about this new chapter. Where do you think I should start. The idea that I have in my head is not to "promote" a brand, but to teach and inspire on how to what we do. >From creating beautiful nails.. and get past those crazy, tricky , frustrating days when we all have wanted to throw in the brush because we are so frustrated.. lol to teaching people the basic business skills on how to get people in their chairs and keep em! I want to share my passion and skills ... and watch people get their "Aha" moment! I have pondered on it for years, however the time has never been just right, and now I am recruiting the help of my nail sisters that are currently educating with companies that you love or are in the position of such as an education director or coordinator that would guide me in the right direction or want to give me the opportunity to work under and with you. Please feel free to offer me an apprentice opportunity!!! I am ready to get my foot in the door!!! I have a great resume full of great achievements and success that I am ready to share.
