This newsletter will be not be sent out daily for the next couple of
weeks but will be sent out several times a week. I am going to visit
my two brothers in Arizona. The number of replies, recipes and
responses are usually slow down during the holiday season and during
the month of January. When there are enough replies, recipes and
responses to post the newsletter will be posted online and an email
message will be sent when it has been posted. A link will be posted
to

This apple pie is great. I've never received a bad compliment. I
think this one tastes just like the Hostess apple pie.

Dutch Apple Pie
2 c. all purpose flour
1 c. packed brown sugar
3/4 c. butter melted
1/2 c. quick-cooking oats

Filling:
1 c. water
2/3 c. sugar
3 TBS cornstarch
1 1/4 c. diced peeled tart apples (3 large granny smith)
1 tsp vanilla (don't be afraid to let the vanilla run over)

Combine the first four ingredients; set aside 1 c. for topping.
Press remaining crumb mixture into an ungreased 9-inch pie plate;
set aside. For the filling, combine sugar, cornstarch, and water in
a saucepan until smooth; bring to a boil. Cook and stir for 1
minute, or until thickened. Remove from the heat; stir in apples and
vanilla. Pour into crust; top with the reserved crumb mixture. Bake
at 350 degrees for 40-45 minutes.
