:-) Well. I think the separate assemblies are worth of discussion. For example, my recently proposed <net-transfer> task (which could http/webdav post some file into remote server). If I could simply make some output (say NAnt.Contrib.NetTransfer.dll) and share it somewhere, anyone could download it. If we provide dedicated forum, we could share thoughts about it, etc, making feedback to further improving the task.
Today, asmins have to merge my code into nantcontrib project, which takes their efforts and time. And there are plenty of reasons they could reject the task completely which prolongs life cycle. [in this particular case, nothing happens up to now, but maybe I'm not in nant-contrib forum]. I think this "extensions" model could give some light to whole project. I agree with Gert, that core is pretty stable, so we could mark it as 1.0 and leave it as is, changing only extensions. But it could take some time for setuping websites, forums, discussions, download areas, ... Alternativelly we could setup every extension project as completely new sourceforge project, but it sounds ugly to me... Also from user perspective (since we are all nant users after all): - I personally perfere to download small assembly, copy it into nant/bin folder and use new task - I don't like to have nant.contib.tasks.dll with bunch of external dependencies with lot of fancy tasks of variying matureness - I could download just those tasks, I want to use - If task is mature enough and merged into core, I just delete "old" task assembly and I'm ready to use new one!
