"We're not as close to her as other family. She isn't family by blood-she married by Daddy's brother."
And, I thought: "What makes one family? This woman gave most of her adult life to this 'family' and still, she is considered an outsider by family members. When does a person become 'family?' Is blood thicker than devotion? And, what of those adopted?
Are they family?"
Can you see the parallel? Many mixed-bloods, feel this way. They devote their lives to Indian issues--helping any way they can--and, still, they are considered outsiders.
This constant separation of mixed bloods from full bloods is a terrible thing! When do we become family--one family?
Just thoughts--of a mixed blood...half-breed.
