Naomi Lang at Champions on Ice in Sacramento, California A report by Susan Smith July 25, 2002 http://darkwing.uoregon.edu/~ssmith4/coi2002.html
It was blazing hot in the Sacramento heat, but refreshingly cool, and even a bit foggy in the Arco Arena. The ticket said the show would start at 7pm, but it didn't start until nearly 8pm. It was nearly sold out; the only open blocks of seats were in the very top sections. Champions on Ice is an ice show just for fun. No judges, winners or losers, just lots of great skating. Some of the big names on this tour are Michelle Kwan, Sarah Hughes, Sasha Cohen, Timothy Goebel and for the first time, our home team, Naomi Lang and Peter Tchernyshev. Naomi and Peter gave a wonderful, beautiful performance. They skated their free dance from this season; a blues number called "Parisienne Walkways." It was really expressive; very romantic and dreamy. Their skating will move you even more live than it does seeing it on television. When they took the ice, the audience just gave polite applause, but at the end, there was much cheering & whistling. This Friday, July 26, Naomi and Peter perform in Champions on Ice in Portland, Oregon. They will skate with the tour until it ends in mid-August. The International Skating Union lists Naomi & Peter as being invited to the first Grand Prix event of the 2002-2003 season: Skate America in Spokane, Washington, October 24-27. On July 30, the US Figure Skating Association will announce who they are sending to Skate America. I've got my tickets already, and I do hope to give you all another report on more great skating by our own Naomi Lang. -- Andr Cramblit: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Operations Director Northern California Indian Development Council NCIDC (http://www.ncidc.org) is a non-profit that meets the development needs of American Indians and operates an art gallery featuring the art of California tribes (http://www.americanindianonline.com) COMMUNICATION IS THE KEY TO THE FUTURE OF AMERICAN INDIANS/NATIVE AMERICANS/ALASKAN NATIVES & HAWAIIAN ISLANDERS.
