SEATTLE: Westlake Park (401 Pine Street) NOON . Friday, August 23 Rally +
walk to the Federal Building

SHOW YOUR SUPPORT WITH YOUR OWN TWO FEET!

EVERYONE, from all "walks" of life, are invited to show their support for
the protection of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, the Porcupine
caribou herd, and for the very identity of the Gwich'in nation. It is also
a great time to make a donation, if the spirit moves you.

The threat of oil and gas exploration and development in the birthing
grounds of the Porcupine caribou herd in the Arctic Refuge is the highest
profile environmental issue in North America. For the Gwich'in people it
is a human rights issue and a cultural issue.

The following Gwich'in representatives will be in attendance: Norma Kassi,
2002 Goldman Prize Winner; Chief Evon Peter from Arctic  Village, Alaska;
Chief Joe Linklater from Old Crow, Yukon; Sandra Newman, Caribou
Coordinator for the Vuntut Gwitchin; and Elaine Alexie, Gwich'in Youth
Coordinator from Ft. MacPherson, NWT.

Also in attendance will be internationally acclaimed musician Matthew
Lien. He will perform his compelling composition, "Just As It Should Be,"
inspired by the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge!

The Walk is an effort to keep the protection of the Arctic National
Wildlife Refuge on the front pages of US papers and at the top of the
agenda for US politicians campaigning for the November mid-term elections.

The Walk to Washington, D.C. will include rallies and slide presentations
in hundreds of towns and cities across the U.S. Presentations will
highlight the Gwich'in Nation and 20,000 years of living with the caribou,
energy conservation and alternative technologies that help protect
wilderness.

Details and updates will be posted regularly on the Caribou Commons
website at www.cariboucommons.com For more information contact:
