     December 9th 
     1729: The NATCHEZ send 2 Indians to visit the TUNICAs today. The
NATCHEZ want
     them to join them in a war against the French. The TUNICA will refuse. 
     1778: Virginia annexes land. 
     1805: Lewis & Clark visit a CLATSOP village and observe the Indians
gambling. 
     1809: The KICKAPOO sign a treaty with the United States today. 
     1854: The United States signa a treaty with 2 diffenent Indian Nations. 
     1861: Col.Douglas Cooper, again encounters the pro-Union CREEKs in a
battle on Bird
     Creek, north of Tulsa. Many of his CHEROKEE troops, under John Drew,
defect and join
     the pro-Union forces. Cooper will withdrawn to Fort Gibson. 
     1864: Fanny Kelly is left at Ft.Sully by SIOUX. 
     1873: Lt.C.L.Hudson, and troop B, fourth cavalry, have a minor
skirmish with a band of
     Indians on the West Fork of the Nueces River, in Texas. 
     1891: President Harrison delivers his third speech on Indian lands
today. 
     1924: By Presidential Proclamation today, the Wupatki National
Monument is establsihed
     in Arizona, northeast of Flagstaff.
