The Mass Commission on Indian Affairs was established by MGL Chapter 6A,
SectionA.  Its mission is to "...assist Tribal Councils, Indian Organization
and individuals in their relationship with agencies of state and local
government, assit with social services, education, employment opportunitues,
health, housing problems, civil rights, legal aid, treaties, taking of a
census of American Indian Residents, and any other rights or services
concerning American Indian Residents of the Commonwealth."   - Assisgned to
the Department of Housing and Community Development

Duties:
The incumbant will serve as the Departments priamry liason to the Commission
and will provide professional and adminstrative support to the Commission for
a variety of ongoing services for the Native American community including, but
not limited to:
1. Evaluation and reinternment of Native American remains,
2. Repatriation of Native American artifacts
3.Certification of Native American ancestry for use in applications such as
employment, scholarships, adoption, etc.
4. Assisting Native Americans in obtaining state tuition waivers,
5. Promotion of social services for Native Americans
6. Review of legislative initiatives as they relate to the Native American
Community
7. Identification of educational and economic opportunities available to the
Native American Community
8. Coordination of counseling of Native American prison inmates and persons
with disabilities
9. Preparation of an annual report on the activities of the commission
10. Implementation of prioroties of the commission such as - promotion of th
eeducation of Native American people, promotion of a Native American
curriculum for public schools,promotion of the accomplishments of Native
Americans

Qualifications:
MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:  Applicants must have at least (A) fours years
of full-time or equivalant part-time professional, administrative,
supervisory, or managerial experiene in business adminstration, business
management, or public administration and (B) of which at least two years must
have been in a supervisory or managerial capacity or (C) and equivalant
combination of the required experience and the substitutions below -

SUBSTITUTIONS:
I. a Masters degree with a major in business administration, management,
public administration, industrial engineering, industrial psychology, or
hospital administration may be subsituted for a maximum of one year of the
required (A) experience *

II. A Docorate with a major in business administration, management, public
administration, industrial engineering, industrial psychology, or hospital
administration may be substituted for a maximum of two years of the required
(A) experience.*


*Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis on the
proportion of the requirements actually completed.

NOTE:  Educational substitutions will only be permitted for a maximum of two
years of the required (A) experience.  NO substitutions will be permitted for
the required (B) experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:  NONE
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
This is a highly sensitive position which requires a unique combination of
administrative skills and experience as well as in-depth knowledge of the
history, customs, rituals of the Native American community in Massachusetts.
