NCDM DENOUNCES ELECTRONIC SABOTAGE AGAINST THE CONSULTA AND ZAPATISTA
SUPPORTERS

The National Commission for Democracy in Mexico (NCDM) denounces the recent
attempts of electronic sabotage against organizations working to support the
Consulta Zapatista. In recent days, organizations such as the Oficina de
Contacto,
Enlace Civil and the FZLN, all of whom are central to the Consulta organizing
efforts in Mexico, have been targets of these attacks by an unknown source.
 The
method of attack is to render important email addresses useless by fraudulent
subscriptions to hundreds of email lists around the world. This tactic
serves to
flood an organization's email account with upwards to a thousand
miscellanous emails
daily which has resulted in the disruption of communication and has temporarily
brought computer systems down. The NCDM was the target of such of an attack
yesterday evening. These attacks continued throughout most of today.
Moreover, a
number of Brigades organizing for the Consulta in the U.S. have been
attacked in the
last 24 hours. Allies have identified some of the sources of some of these
attacks
over the last 3 days coming from dialup accounts associated with this
Mexican ISP:
tntmex6-2-121.telmex.net.mx [148.233.226.121]
tntmex5-3-161. telmex.net.mx [148.233.158.161]
tntmex6-1-26.telmex.net.mx [148.233.225.26]

The NCDM condemns these anonymous attacks against all organizations
organizing for
the Consulta and Zapatista supporters. It is a blantant attempt to
undermine what
has been an unprecedented international mobilization for peace and profound
social
and political change in Mexico. Despite the disruptions and inconveniences
it has
caused to the organizations that have been targeted, it has not stopped the
tremendous organizing efforts that are taking place in Mexico, the U.S. and
worldwide. Participation and support for the Consulta is growing rapidly
everyday.
Such efforts at sabotage can not deter or stop this international
mobilization of
tens of thousands of people, nor will it undermine the success of the Consulta
process, the results this Sunday, or the Zapatista struggle for a new
Mexico, and a
new world.

Should you have any problems communication problems via email with the
NCDM, please
do not hesitate to contact our office at (323) 261-9574 or (800) 281-4201.
