Interesting that this article surfaced only after the House of Commons
had the bill before its committee since December. Also notice the
langauge with which the issues is discussed, clearly very American and
not at all aware of the discussion which has been going on since the
fall on this bill.
It is always interesting to see how the media oppose First Nations
interests but refuse to provide serious coverage to the debate of this
kind of bill.
It should also be noted that The First Nations Land Management Bill has
been criticized by FN folks for being very much a half measure which
does not really allow much more than municipal authority and strongly
resembles the Optional Indian Band Gov't Legislation which DIAND has
been promoting since 1978.
