But were you able to add other devices?  Did you attempt to add these
two devices again?  If you are in fact able to reach them using snmpwalk
from the NAV box, then maybe EditDB timed out waiting for a response?

You also say you see the SNMP traffic leave your NAV box and go across
through the firewall, but do you see the response packets come back the
other way?

Then again, you also say you experienced the integer serial number error
when attempting to add each device through the regular add form, which
says to me that NAV actually did get a response from the device...

Mysterious, for sure...
