If I can easily influence the level at which the switch is made from tiles to 
vector map, I'm happy. Not only do I want tiles at the levels you describe, 
but more zoomed in as well. I'd like tiles for up to zoom level 13 or 14 of 
OSM.

It's not only the processing speed, it's also the drawing speed that's an 
issue, which is shown by the high CPU usage of Xorg when Navit is drawing the 
map (on my Neo Freerunner). And I've also tweaked the layout to stop drawing 
streets at certain levels to speed things up.

I did, twice, but got no answer. I more or less expected him to subscribe to
