Nice finding, Bill! I can confirm this. I looked a bit deeper into the desktop file: I assume navit crashes from some event send to it via dbus about a minute after startup when running in "hildonized" [1] mode. If you run it from console it doesn't seem to be known as a dbus aware app to the hildon desktop and thus does not get that fatal event. If you want to start navit from a desktop icon in "unhildonized" mode, just comment out the line X-Osso-Service=org.navit_project.navit For hildon-desktop to still find the executable - a symlink does not seem to help here - you must change the Exec-Tag accordingly Exec=/opt/navit/bin/navit Off course this is just a workaround until things get fixed.
