Because there is no 64-bit integer in Neko :)

Alright, why is there no 64-bit integer in Neko? Ok, I'm joking.

My real question was, isn't it dangerous to silently convert an int to a float? Wouldn't it be better to convert to a string whenever no safe conversion to a neko type can be made?

It's not dangerous if it's correctly specified.

And floats in Neko are actually double precision so there might not be lost of precision during the conversion.
