I was following a tutorial, probably old.  Neko works; no pathing issue; the instructions said nekovm-so that was the confusion.....Anyways, thanks for the mention on platform: windows people always think its assumed...sigh...

You should try 'neko test' to see if your install is ok. There is no
'--help' command for neko, but it works with haxe.

Nicolas has stated that neko is for the true hardcore only, so no
install package, no --help function, no useful error message, only
'Uncaught exception' ;-)

  If 'neko test' doesn't work you have a problem (most likely a path
problem). It also helps if you say what platform you're using.
