Thanks for the pointer, I've already found that too and now trying to recompile 
mysql with --with-pic. Not that easy in fact for a number of reasons... Maybe I 
will give up and link statically instead. Thanks anyway!

Your problem seems to be the one described there as case 4.
If I understand correctly you can either recompile your mysql
library to be position independent or link neko module statically with it.
