* Today's Best Buy: Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W1
Sony's compact digital camera has a 5.1-megapixel resolution, a
durable feel, and an oversize LCD that makes viewing photos a
pleasure. We were delighted with its photos, which had bright,
accurate color.
The 2.5-inch screen on the back makes it easier to compose your shots
and navigate menus. The DSC-W1 has a 3X optical zoom, plus a threaded
mount for accessory lenses. Lightning-fast startup is another of this
camera's virtues; about 2 seconds after pressing the power button,
you're ready to go. Shutdown is equally fast, and shutter lag seems
negligible.
The W1 has an easy-to-navigate menu system for changing settings. The
camera's focus control is comprehensive for a point-and-shoot: You get
a manual focus; a center-spot automatic focus; and a multipoint
autofocus.
