We Stay the heck away from the local sailshop unless it is payday AND
we've just received our Christmas Bonuses.
Will look into the CLR, I've seen it somewhere.

There is a product for cleaning rust called CLR (suppermarket) or you
could try a little HCL (dilute). I have never tried either on a sail
but HCL does nothing to plastic so should be ok, and CLR may just be
dilute HCL, never looked. Sorry for the low grade info, but that is
what I would do. or ask your local sail shop what they do, the one
near
me said they soak sails in dilute bleach.

Subject: [beachcats] Sail Cleaning Rust this time

Ok Gary You're on. No Bucket Jokes, Please.

Have a large crusty rust stain on my Daughter's H-14 Sail, looks like
it has some metal object laying up against the Dacron for some time,
Colored Orangish Dacron Main. Any idea how to clean the Rust Stain
off?

All I could think of was Buckets of Acetone, but I really don't think
it would deal with the rust.
Thanks,
CARY

When I saw the subject line I rushed to the keyboard, wanting to be
the first to say it. You had already beat me to it.

You might give mineral spirits a shot, but acetone won't require as
much soapy water afterward.

If it were mine, I would do it. I recall removing tar from a boat
and sail with the use of gasoline. I used a saturated rag, didn't
know about the pouring on of bucket-fulls tecnique.
