1. News: Kodak, Sun Settle Java Lawsuit
Eastman Kodak and Sun Microsystems have settled their
lawsuit over Sun's infringement of Kodak's patents in the
creation of the Java platform. The two sides came to an
out-of-court agreement Wednesday night, before they would
enter the penalty or awards phases of a trial in which a
jury found Sun guilty last Friday.

2. News: AOL Readying Stand-Alone Browser
As the hubbub of alternative Web browsers keeps growing--
from speculation over a so-called "Gbrowser" from
search-engine leader Google to the many advances in the
open-source Mozilla project--in the background, America
Online has been quietly testing its own Web browser, dubbed
"AOL Browser," for more than a month.

Microsoft chairman Bill Gates says he's never had a computer
virus, but that adware and malware have him ticked off
enough that Microsoft plans to do something about them.
Precisely what that might be Gates didn't say, although the

4. News: Microsoft Fixes Vexing XP SP2 Incompatibility
Numerous applications, including some of Microsoft's own,
have encountered compatibility problems with Windows XP SP2
(Service Pack 2). But one application in particular wreaked
an inordinate amount of havoc until Microsoft created a
