'The results just go to show that the citizens...clearly understand the value of natural marriage,' said Christina Rondeau, director of the North Dakota Family Alliance, a group that supported the amendment. ... The most disappointing outcome for gay activists was in Oregon, where supporters of same-sex marriage felt they had the best chance of success. For gay rights groups, the one-sided results, while disheartening, were optimistically seen as just one strike in an ongoing fight. ... The proposed amendments in Mississippi, Montana and Oregon referred only to marriage, specifying that it should be limited to unions of one man and one woman. The measures in Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, Michigan, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma and Utah called for a ban on civil unions as well. ... As part of its obituary, The New York Times said, 'Arafat led a long and failed effort for statehood' for the Palestinians. He did no such thing. Arafat led a long reign of terror, the purpose of which was to kill Jews and eliminate the state of Israel. Arafat never cared about a Palestinian state contiguous to Israel. The only Palestinian state he cared about was one that encompassed all of Israel. He said that repeatedly to his own people while he said something else to the West. Every Palestinian map was printed without Israel. Arafat proved his intentions by the terrorism he encouraged, including homicide bombers, whose families he paid out of funds that should have gone to help his 'people.' One list of Israeli fatalities caused by terrorism inspired and directed by Arafat just since the 1993 Oslo accords runs 47 single-spaced pages. In a statement on Arafat's death, the Vatican sounded as if it were speaking of Mother Teresa. The Vatican's chief spokesman referred to Arafat as 'the illustrious deceased' and asked God to grant eternal rest to his soul. Where is church-state separation when you really need it? The only 'resting' place Arafat will enjoy is a place in hell alongside his ideological and anti-Semitic idol, Adolph Hitler." --Cal Thomas ______----********O********----______ GOVERNMENT "Once again the federal government has reached its 'debt ceiling,' and once again Congress is poised to authorize an increase in government borrowing. Between its ever-growing bureaucracies, expanding entitlements, and overseas military entanglements, the federal government is borrowing roughly one billion dollars every day to pay its bills. Federal law limits the amount of debt the U.S. Treasury may carry, and the current amount -- a whopping $7.4 trillion -- has been reached once again by a spendthrift federal government. Total federal spending, which now exceeds $2 trillion annually, once took more than 100 years to double. Today it doubles in less than a decade, and the rate is accelerating." --Rep. In spite of Bush's win, the majority of Americans still think the country is headed in the wrong direction (56%), think the war wasn't worth fighting (51%), and don't approve of the job George W. Bush is doing (52%). 5. 88% of Bush's support came from white voters. In 50 years, America will no longer have a white majority. Hey, 50 years isn't such a long time! If you're ten years old and reading this, your golden years will be truly golden and you will be well cared for in your old age. 6. Should Bush decide to show up to work and take this country down a very dark road, it is also just as likely that either of the following two scenarios will happen: a) Now that he doesn't ever need to pander to the Christian conservatives again to get elected, someone may whisper in his ear that he should spend these last four years building 'a legacy' so that history will render a kinder verdict on him and thus he will not push for too aggressive a right-wing agenda; or b) He will become so cocky and arrogant -- and thus, reckless -- that he will commit a blunder of such major proportions that even his own party will have to remove him from office. ... Feeling better? I hope so." --Michael Moore ______----********O********----______ POLITICAL FUTURES "Now that President Bush is a lame duck he can concentrate on doing the things he thinks ought to be done and not worry about getting re-elected. However, he is wrong if he thinks his victory gives him a mandate to move leftward. He was re-elected by conservatives, many of them unhappy campers who voted for him only because they were deathly afraid of John Kerry and what he would do to the country. Bush has a choice now. He can become what many of his supporters thought he would be in his first term -- the clear successor to Ronald Reagan. Or he can continue along the road of go-along-to-get-along moderation that has dogged Republican leadership so many times in the past. It is going to be up to conservative Republicans now to keep the pressure on the president to steer a rightward course. Without such pressures all presidents tend to drift left. Bush had a chance to reshape the GOP in the image of Reagan during his first four years and didn't, perhaps because 9/11 interfered. He is being given a second chance. But that is no excuse for not trying to recall at least some of it. Perhaps his signal contribution to the practice of political terror was the introduction of warfare against children. On one black date in May 1974, three PLO terrorists slipped from Lebanon into the northern Israeli town of Ma'alot. They murdered two parents and a child whom they found at home, then seized a local school, taking more than 100 boys and girls hostage and threatening to kill them unless a number of imprisoned terrorists were released. When Israeli troops attempted a rescue, the terrorists exploded hand grenades and opened fire on the students. By the time the horror ended, 25 people were dead; 21 of them were children. Thirty years later, no one speaks of Ma'alot anymore. The dead children have been forgotten. Everyone knows Arafat's name, but who ever recalls the names of his victims? Kerry for treason. We have received thousands of inquiries about the "Petition for Investigation and Indictment" of John Kerry. According to legal experts, John Kerry's meetings with enemy agents from Communist North Vietnam on multiple occasions between 1970 and 1972 are not covered under Jimmy Carter's amnesty as outlined in EO 4483. For that reason, on Monday, 22 October, we delivered to U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft a "Petition for Investigation and Indictment" calling on the Department of Justice to determine conclusively whether Kerry's actions, in direct violation of UCMJ (Article 104 part 904), U.S. Code (18 USC Sec. 2381 and 18 USC Sec. 953) and other applicable laws and acts of Congress, constitute treason, and disqualify him from any future campaign for any national office. We plan to pursue this issue, as its endorsers have requested, to its resolution, and we fully expect an answer from AG Ashcroft. In reality, given the political sensitivity of this request, we don't expect any action before January 05. However, we are contemplating forming an alliance with other groups like the Swiftees and POWs, and moving forward with this legal challenge. We will keep you posted. In Colorado, they traded voter registrations for crack cocaine. In Ohio, they registered Mary Poppins and Dick Tracy. The media campaigned heavily for Kerry with endless Abu Ghraib coverage, phony National Guard documents and, days before the election, false news reports that hundreds of tons of munitions had been looted in Iraq. The Democrats' cheating never stopped. The big story of this election is the fraudulent exit polls on Election Day. ...
