The Collier County Commission made sure Nov. 30 that the land will be protected for public use. In essence, Goodland and the county are getting a new 2.61-acre community park as well as a new location for attracting tourists. COUNCIL TO VOTE ON CHANGES IN BUSINESS SIGNAGE RULES After years of ambiguous and rarely enforced business signage rules, Marco planners are attempting to bring order to the system. Marco business and restaurant owners have one last opportunity to publicly support or oppose a proposed signage ordinance that will come before the City Council on Monday, Dec. 6. RESTOCKED BEACH STICKERS AVAILABLE AT MACKLE PARK Marco Island residents who want to park at Tigertail Beach Park or the South Marco Beach public parking lot now can purchase annual Collier County beach stickers at the Mackle Park Community Center. Mackle Park was one of several county locations that ran out of the stickers in October, after Collier County Parks and Recreation officials handed out nearly 5,000 stickers. STATE PRESSES INSURERS TO SETTLE HURRICANE CLAIMS The four hurricanes that slashed through Florida during the 2004 storm season caused a total of $20 billion in insured losses by property owners, according to a report by Florida's chief financial officer, Tom Gallagher. State officials have been busy making sure insurance companies settle those claims quickly and without penalty to their clients. Gallagher released the report just before Thanksgiving to update homeowners on the progress being made in helping settle insurance claims. The good results are directly related to the company's strong merchandise, said Scott Edmonds, president and chief executive of Chico's, after the market closed Tuesday.
