============================================================ DIGITAL DIGEST http://www.marconews.com December 3, 2004 ============================================================ Subscribe to the Naples Daily News: http://web.marconews.com/marco/subscribe.html THE ISLANDER: GATHERED 'ROUND THE TV Considering the amount of time most Americans spend watching TV (an average of four hours per day, according to the A.C. Nielsen Co.), it's no wonder that Christmas specials and movies have become as much a part of our holidays as decorating the tree or wrapping gifts. Some shows A Charlie Brown Christmas, for instance, and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer have been airing for decades. Their songs have become our Christmas soundtrack. THE ISLAND HOPPER: PARTYING WITH FAMILY Ah, the holiday season. Time to be with loved ones, eat lots of farm animals, and revel in togetherness. And then, when all that togetherness threatens to unravel your equanimity, it's time to go cocktailing and don't pretend you don't know what I'm talking about. Luckily, my immediate and extended family happen to be fun people to party with, so the Friday night after Thanksgiving found me out with a group that ranged in age from single-digits to the 70s. But all's well that ends in a delicious dinner like the one I shared with family last week. Under the Oceans Act of 2000, Bush has until Dec. 20 to respond to the Ocean Commission's report, and there has been concern among ocean advocates and scientists that his response would be lackluster. Commissioners last year backed off plans to six-lane Logan/Santa Barbara Boulevard right away, but proceeded with acquiring land to do the job. Someday. This week, even after recent public advisories indicated otherwise, the board put the full widening back on the county's active to-do list. Someday is today. More than a little daunting, the annual exposition that continues through Sunday is virtually certain to give visitors a strong sense of visual overload.
