where you will get to meet some of the faces behind the e-mails.
As for the lack of competitive criticism (of others' boats), I think that
you correctly identified the various reasons. One, it is a small world,
which means two things. First, the "competitors" may be known and respected
by those who might criticize, and second, in a small circle, what goes
around really does come around - rather quickly. Also, as you said, even
those manufacturers with problems (and Corsair has had its share) make
great, fun boats which generate enthusiasm and thereby a certain amount of
forgiveness. As for being motivated by their expectation that you will
eventually buy a bigger boat from them, I would say it is more a matter of
being happy to see more people in the club.
I think that this group is pretty special, however. Not only do we have a
number of experts in racing, gear, engineering, and design, but they are all
very generous with their advice, and they are all over the world, so you get
to hear about sailing in places that you even thought of. And to top it off,
we have Ian Farrier chiming in as the ultimate generous expert.
By the way, what part of the world is home port?
