Hers is a wonderful story of a new beginning and a better life. Here�s what she had to share. Today's Hero: My hero is my husband Mike. I have always said he was my gift from God. I was 27 when I met my husband and also had 4 kids and had just gone through a really bad divorce. I also had just come out of a metal hospital from a nervous breakdown. When I first came out of the hospital, I was staying with my aunt but could only stay there for 30 days because she lived in low-income housing. I didn't know what I was going to do or where I was going to take my kids. I had an application in for an apartment in what we call the projects. It was not a real good place to live, but I didn't care. It was a place to live for me and my kids. I went to the main office the day before we were to leave my aunt�s house and begged the lady for an apartment, and she did have one apartment to rent so she gave it to me. Like I said it wasn't the best place in the world to live, but to me and my kids, it was a mansion. Well 2 weeks after us living there, a friend of mine introduced me to this man. I new from the first moment I saw him that I would one day marry him, and I did 5 years later. The night I met him, he offered to take me and my kids home so I allowed him to do so. That night he came in and we talked for hours. Well to make a long story short, he has been with me ever since. What makes this man so special is that he married me and took on my 4 kids as his own. He had never been married before, and his was my 3rd marriage. He also never had any kids of his own, and I couldn't have any more. He always said that we had 4 kids � that�s all we needed. He moved us out of the projects just 6 months after us being there. He moved us into a 4-bedroom house. It was the most beautiful house I had ever seen, and we are still here today 12 years later. He works everyday to take care of me, and even though our kids are grown now he still finds the funds to help them out when they need it. He has always treated my kids just as they were his own and has never once complained about it. To me he is my hero and always will be. The best thing we can be is the hero of another.
