Good morning ,

Here's what's new on StarNet, the online service of the Arizona Daily Star:

U.S. judge greenlights Prop. 200
As of today, the state of Arizona will begin enforcing Proposition 200, the
voter-approved initiative that denies some public benefits to illegal
immigrants. A federal judge in Tucson on Wednesday lifted a temporary
restraining order that had blocked the state from implementing the initiative.
After his ruling, Gov. Janet Napolitano issued an executive order directing
state agencies to comply with the law.

Olson happy as UA breaks for holiday
Before he released the Wildcats for a four-day Christmas break, Arizona
basketball coach Lute Olson asked his players to make sure they put in two hard
conditioning workouts on their own. In most cases, the honor system is his only
means of enforcement. He also may be able to identify any laggards with his
eyes during what is normally a very physical post-Christmas practice on Sunday
night.

Policy extends Iraq service for many
A policy that's keeping many U.S. soldiers in Iraq beyond their enlistment
contracts is upsetting some Tucson families this holiday season. The "stop
loss" policy, which allows the extension of active-duty deployments during
national emergencies and wars, even prompted an unusual lawsuit this month,
with eight U.S. soldiers in Kuwait and Iraq suing over extended tours.

People at lower risk for flu complications - those 50 to 65 years old - may
begin getting flu shots from Tucson doctors by the first week in January, if
they have leftover vaccine.

Marriott Starr Pass debut pushed back
Blame the delayed opening of Tucson's new JW Marriott Starr Pass Resort & Spa
on its spectacular site. Marriott chose to build the stucco-and-marble crescent
on a Tucson Mountain foothill with fantastic views - and soil that was too soft
to support the edifice.
