Harken Unit 1 is the perfect furler on a true cruising F-31.
I sell all makes of furlers and if you want a Furling/Reefing system then
Harken is the ONLY one that Flattens the luff of the jib/Genoa when you are
Reefing the sail.
The Zipper system is fine for racing or costal cruising (Bay) Trying to
change a headsail on a Luff tape or Zipper system on the bow of a bouncing
Trimaran would not be a positive experience. Hanks are tried and true if you
want the ultimate in simplicity with the ability to change to smaller
headsails you can't go wrong with hanks.
As for the Harken being too beefy because the furlers are based on headstay
size to stay with a Harken Unit 1 you will need to go with either a Rod or
Dyform forestay.
