Hi Egypt Angler

1. I think the pureist would say yes you need to use a fly  bu tIm
not one of them   I use to have a ball catching American shad in the
4-6 lb range in the Columbis River out in Oregon   I used small
spinners on a other wise conventional ff rig
Alsd hooked a few Salmon while doing it  I do know its fum :)

2 Basically a dry fly floats on the surface and a Wet fly will sink
That is basic flydishing for sure

Yes you  can flyfish from a boat and if bank fishing  and the brush
etc  is very thick it could be the only way to cast a line  ( At
least for me ) Again the purist may not agree but yesyou can troll
aswell
I have also used a spinning reel and a bubble flost with a leader and
fly with sucess    But doubt thats actually considered Fly
fishing ??? I alsouse a heavy Level wind reel wirh a 3 way and about
4 oz of lead with large streamer type flys  for Catfishing at dam
gates   Its not flyfishing but its effective  and sure alot of fun

Bet you cn tell Im no pureist at flyfishing  but couldnt care less I
have fun  :0
