Time
and Stress Management tip of the month
If
I had to give you only one simple, practical, tangible
suggestion for reducing your stress and increasing your time
in this coming month, I'd tell you this.
(Before
I do, I'd like to ask that you actually try it before leaving
this list! It does sound too simple to be true).
Spend
15 minutes most days for the next 30 days de-cluttering the
worst part of your home or office. Be as brutal as you can be
in terms of donating items and throwing things out. Unless you
are already very tidy (in which case you already understand
how clutter can affect your mood, raise your stress, and waste
your time) you can almost be guaranteed to experience some
improvement in your mood and efficiency. The average person is
said to spend an accumulated six weeks a year looking for things.
This
average person also has an unquantified increase in stress and
negative mood due to clutter.
The
person who de-clutters almost always experiences a powerful
reduction in stress, and increase in time, and an interesting
increase in energy and mental clarity. There has been ample
anecdotal evidence on the latter. Why do you think this
is the case?
Give
it a try and email me your results!

Tool of the month
COOL
DESK!
Does
your computer desktop ever get too cluttered? If you've been
reading my newsletter for any length of time, you probably
know I love to try out new things on my computer. And quite
unfortunately, my desktop shows it. Cool Desk - Virtual
Desktop Manager for Windows (sorry Mac users!) is a useful
tool for managing this desktop clutter. It allows you to
create multiple, skinnable desktops. You can easily toggle
between them. The upshot is that you can have it all there on
your desktop, and still be tidy and organized! It is free to
try and under $25 to purchase. Check it out at http://www.shelltoys.com

http://www.flylady.net
Need
help in that 15-minute-a-day de-clutter exercise? The Fly Lady
is an incredible resource for anyone who needs assistance with
organization in the home or office. The format is a bit
light-hearted and may not seem as professional or serious as
some other resources on space organization, but the content is
excellent.
http://www.justgive.org/
Do
you have good charitable intentions, but less than stellar follow-through? This is a site that may help you with that.
justgive.org lists one million charities, many of which have
been pre-screened for you. The charities are in categories, so
you can easily research and target those that matter most to
you. Plus, there are a number of creative ideas on how to give
over and above the standard options. You can create your own
wish list to share with others, you can create a
"giving" wedding registry, and more. This is a fine
site to make it easy to follow through on those good
intentions!

Be
Your Own Life Coach: Dream It! Plan It! Do It! by Diane M.
Scholten
Here
is an excellent collection of basic life-planning worksheets
that you can use on your own or with your coach to brainstorm
where you want to go and how you might best get there. It
includes thought-provoking questions and exercises on your
whole range of life planning, from career to relationships.
Diane also includes some very useful case studies which
illuminate how different people have sorted through some their
own goals and dreams. I
strongly recommend this as a useful set of exercises in
discovering what you want out of life.
One
final Coaching Thought
There is
power in someone brainstorming with you, strategizing with
you, challenging you to your best, holding you accountable to
your commitments, seeing what is in your blind spots, and championing you as you reach your
aspirations. Coaching works.
I bring
20 years of project management and process improvement
experience to your specific goals and dreams, and work with
you to brainstorm what you want, create a plan, and work that
plan.
What has
not yet yielded to your best efforts? A weight issue? Energy
issues? Paper chaos? Time management problems? A stalled
business or career path? A project that you just haven't been
able to complete?
Call or
email me if you'd like to see if coaching can make a
difference with this.
