We have LT235.85x16 tires as specified on our telstar.
The tire manufacture calls for tire spacing of 10.5 inches center to
center of the tire. Eyeballing from the rear looks like about 1.5 to
2 inches between tire sidewalls at 65 lbs. on level ground.
A LT245.75x16 would call for 11.3 inches center to center of the tire
tread. this is a slightly less diameter but also slightly wider tire.
3/8ths of an inch is dangerous in my opinion. The tires rubbing
together cause heat build up, scrubbing of the side wall against each
other and raise the tempeture of the tire also raise the psi.
Any good tire shop should be able to give you the correct spacing
requirment for you tire configuration.
We do not buy motorhome tires at Costco. They told me they were
simply a grocery store that happens to sell tires and did not pretend
to be tire experts for motorhomes.
I was a little taken back by the honesty of the employee, but I
believe he is correct.
A few business friends only buy tires for their trucks from Les
Schwaub here in the Portland area. Les Schwaub employees gave me the
information on the center to center details when we were considering
another tire size. They recomended staying with the called for tire
but said with the rims and configuration we have we could go to the
slightly smaller diameter but slightly wider 245.75x16 over the
235.65x16 and gain a little weight bearing load capacity.
