In a lighter vein than my previous response, my tires are LT235/85R16
Load Range "E".
I originally had Load Range "D" tires in a 235/85/R16 that were a Load
Range "D" rating, but changed them because my rig weighed in a tad too
heavy, and the E rated ones have a load carrying capacity of about 400
Lbs. per tire than the old "D" rated ones (not Michelins).
I believe they refer to the "D" load range as an "8 ply tire", and the
"E" load range as a 10 or 12 ply tire.
I would think that the load range "E" would mean the same thing on
other tire sizes as well, as it is a rating of the tire's relative
construction "toughness" or weight carrying capacity.
I also, I'm going to go out and properly remeasure my tire spacing in
the morning. I had basically "eye-balled" them from an awkward
position, and as I age my "eye-balling" is probably not what it once was.
