 Welcome

If you want a lesson in leaving a legacy, look no further than the life of Reggie White. It's almost fitting that he died so close to the holiday that celebrates the birth of the Savior he so boldly proclaimed throughout his life—and went on to meet in his death. As an ordained minister and NFL "Great," White was the epitome of the Christian athlete who sought excellence both on and off the field. He's remembered for his athleticism, leadership, boldness, character, and love for Jesus Christ.

In honor of his life and passing, we're offering two devotions written by Reggie White for one of our publications, Men of Integrity. "What Commitment Looks Like" and "Winning Drive" reveal the heart he had for ministry and impacting lives—check them out for wisdom you can apply to your own life!

Then read our Christian Athlete Profile on NBA guard-turned-coach Avery Johnson. Reggie White would appreciate his words about serving God in this life—and the next.

Be sure to browse articles from Christianity Today on the tsunami relief efforts. Visit our special section to find more news, articles to aid your prayers, and links to charitable organizations.

I hope your new year is full of blessings and opportunities to learn and grow! Thanks for reading.

Jill

What Commitment Looks Like
Up Close & Personal with Reggie White

Q. What does true commitment mean to you?

A. Most of the men committed to God in the Scriptures were willing to die for Him. We had people in this country who would die for a cause up until the sixties. But I wonder how many would die for a cause today. I wonder how many are willing to die for Jesus.

"Your ears will hear a voice behind you." Isaiah 30:21

Before she was even 18, Krissy Wendell had been called the best female ice hockey player in the country. As a high school senior, Wendell scored an astonishing 166 points (110 goals and 56 assists) in 27 games. Her phenomenal success led her to a crisis of sorts when she was invited to play on the US National Women's Team.

 Christian Athlete Profile

Avery Johnson
Dallas Mavericks

Avery Johnson is perhaps the best example in the NBA of how hard work can result in a successful, surprising career in the league. Johnson went undrafted out of Southern University, but through determination and hard work crafted a 16-year career in the NBA. Although he recently retired, he's joined the Dallas Mavericks coaching staff as an assistant to Don Nelson. During his career, besides helping lead the San Antonio Spurs to the NBA title in 1999, Johnson also committed his life to Jesus Christ—something he loves to talk about. But then Avery loves to talk, period. Johnson talked with Sports Spectrum magazine about serving Jesus Christ.
