it is with great embarassment that i report the following...

i tried ...

./configure --with-ssl --with-libs=/usr/kerberos 

and got ...

configure: Configured to build neon 0.24.7:
 
  Install prefix:  /usr/local
  Compiler:        gcc
  XML Parser:      libxml 2.5.10
  SSL library:     OpenSSL (0.9.7 or later)
  zlib support:    found in -lz
  Build libraries: Shared=yes, Static=yes
 
Now run 'make' to compile the neon library.
 
neon configured properly
checking for any extra libraries neon needs... -L/usr/kerberos/lib
-L/usr/local/lib  -lssl -lcrypto -lz -L/usr/kerberos/lib -lgssapi_krb5
-lkrb5 -lk5crypto -lcom_err -lxml2 -lz -lpthread -lm
checking for static Apache module support... no
checking for Apache module support via DSO through APXS... found at
/usr/local/apache/bin/apxs

i hate being caught at failing to RTFM.
