Good luck actually getting 7971 for only $50.

I think a few stats are missing.

There was even a pair that went for $600.

I was lucky to purchase 15 for $650
Aside of ebay.

Later purchase another 11 at $600 shipped.

I think I was lucky at those prices.

They are too expensive for my tastes. Problem is, if I decide to
build a project with some sort of tube, I prefer to ensure that I can
stock at least two full sets of replacements. So I'd need 18 tubes to
commit to a clock project (I just like clocks!). That would be $900
at today's prices. If the B7971 was the only thing going I might
consider it. But I have IN-18s, ZM1040s, IV-13 numitrons, cheap VFD
tubes, CRTs, and piles of smaller Nixie tubes to make clocks from.
Plus, I can get brand new 4-digit Vishay plasma displays, 2" high
alphanumeric chars, for about $33/digit.
