Hmm the DIP-solution seems possible, yes, I never thought of soldering them permanently. I will try that. The thing about flying leads is that they are practical when soldering a board by hand, but when you need something that will be easy to maintain, these tubes are simply unpractical. It can always happen that a Russian tube decides to stop working properly, sadly - as I said, one tube in my four digit IN-16 clock is in that very phase.
