I have some Chinese nixies that have flying wire leads. I soldered those on to a 14-pin DIP header plug to test a few of those tubes, and I really like the way they turned out.
Before soldering each lead, I insulated each one and then carefully bent the ends to fit into the little forks on the DIP header pins. With care, each tube ends up the same height above it's header. Then, it easily plugs in to a 14 pin DIP socket.
