There is a seller on ebay who has changed his selling name/account a few  
times, but sells a very good clock, and he basically does the same  thing.   
I have several of his clocks.
 
He uses pin headers to a small PCB.  The tubes soldered to  it.   This 
makes them modular and easy to rotate/replace.

He has done that modular design with QS30, IN14, and IN8  (at least  those 
are the 3 versions I have).

I soldered those on to a  14-pin DIP header plug to test a few
of those tubes, and I really like the  way they turned out.

Before soldering each lead, I insulated each one  and then
carefully bent the ends to fit into the little forks on
the DIP  header pins.   With care, each tube ends up the same
height above  it's header.   Then, it easily plugs in to a
14 pin DIP  socket.
