Even the IN-14 has risen in price dramatically. When I built my wife's clock 5 years ago, they were something like $1/each. Now they are something like $6/each. She made me stockpile enough of the things to give her confidence that there will be replacement tubes for her clock for the rest of her life... and she's only 34, so that is a lot of tubes! Luckily, it's made it 5 years without needing new tubes, so maybe I don't need as many as I have.... But I'm still not allowed to get into her "stash" for new clock designs. :) I continue to recommend the IN-12 for new designs, it has the same digit height as the IN-14 and is $1/tube. I wonder if the reason they are still cheap is because they are end-view tubes?

But Shane is right: For a beginner a tube like the IN-14 ist very nice. In fact, I still like it very much.
