Your way of thinking and talking about this is counterproductive,
Alternative power is very interesting technology, but every case needs
to be examined on a life-cycle basis. Making Solar cells is an energy
intensive process, batteries are hard to make in long life versions.
You don't want to spend a lot of effort to do an "Ethanol" where the
costs are very high, for a technology that only slightly saves any
energy on a life cycle basis, (In fact may be a net negative)
